San Francisco Downtown

San Francisco is famous for many sights, but the most iconic and instantly recognizable one is the Golden Gate Bridge. Unfortunately, at this time of year it’s often covered in fog, so I ended up spending a day — or rather, two days — exploring downtown instead. In contrast to the bridge area, the sun was shining there and the fog was nowhere to be seen. Before heading downtown, we decided to check the weather at the beach. As you can see, it was rather dull and windy out there… One of the best elevated viewpoints in San Francisco is Coit Tower, offering a great panorama of downtown and a clear view of Alcatraz from the top. Pillar tops are only visible, the rest of bridge is hidden. Alcatraz revealed. SF Downtown. Another spot well known in SF is Lombard Street, it’s the crookedest street in the world. We have sneaked in into some private property where we have found another nice view of Alcatraz. And there is no San Francisco without cable cars ! Lombard street from the opposite side of the city. And some photos from the downtown itself. Chinatown American muscle cars.

First weekend

It just so happened that my first weekend after arriving coincided with a long weekend — Labor Day in the US — which meant Monday was a day off. As a result, many people were heading into San Francisco to spend the day there. This led to heavy traffic and parking issues, so we decided to drive away from the city and head to Napa Valley instead. The weather was beautiful, and we had the chance to taste local wine paired with Spanish cheese. The valley itself is quite vast, and the grapes were excellent! So far, I haven’t had much luck capturing a good shot of the Golden Gate Bridge, as it’s been covered in thick fog. Only a small part of the bridge briefly revealed itself as we were heading toward Napa.   One of the things that I’m quite excited about in America is vintage cars, especially the ones that are covered with rust and abandoned, you can find lot of those along country roads and this one was parked next to a diner where we stopped for a moment. Napa downtown was nothing special so we moved further to north to Calistoga where we stopped at […]

USA Roadmap

Dear friends, This is the first entry on my photo blog, which I launched recently. Right from the beginning, I’m excited to share my plans for the coming month. But instead of using too many words, it’s probably easier to show you. The map below outlines the route I’m planning to take through the southwestern United States — starting in San Francisco, traveling all the way to Yellowstone, and then returning back to SF. I hope this ambitious plan comes together smoothly and that there won’t be any major obstacles along the way. I’ll stay in touch as much as possible, regularly updating the blog with news, impressions, and of course photos from all the places I’ll be visiting during the journey. Wish me luck, and see you around!
