Las Vegas & Death Valley

Arrived to Vegas at late evening and went for a walk when it was midnight, first thing to visit was Stratosphere , after making couple of shots from the street I went in.

There are different attractions inside the tower but what I wanted is to get to the top.
But unfortunately they’ve been closing visits to the top and I left it for next day.
I had a long walk on Las Vegas Boulevard but I was really exhausted by driving almost 8hrs from San Francisco so I made few shots of casinos and went back to hotel to get some sleep.

Death Valley
Next day I headed to Death Valley, filled gas, bought plenty of water and food, because my destination was the area with “moving rocks” called Racetrack Playa, the rocks are leaving trails on a deserted field of salt flats, the real cause of those trails is not yet known, but there are several theories about that. Anyway , I did some research of an area before going there and the only concern was the 27mile unpaved road which leads to the racetrack itself.
The road was great and it was very hot.

On my way I met a ranger of National Park who was very kind and gave me a map of the area and was really surprised when he heard where I’m planning to go with my 4door sedan, because it’s 4×4 recommended, but I nevertheless I continued my journey and approached to that very place where the pavement ends.

And ohh my lord what the hell was that !
On some photos I’ve seen previously it was just sand, but this !? Sharp rocks around and bumps and washed out areas , after few miles I made a decision to turn back, because there was a high chance I will blow all my tires and they were really really soft so first obstacle on my way so far.
So I turned back and decided to check out other places around, first one was a crater called Ubehebe, funny name though …

Another small one was located in half a mile from it and called Little Hebe.

Some photos form surroundings and from the road in various areas of Death Valley.
This is one of the hottest places on earth, the temperature was reaching up to 114 F, about 45 degrees Centigrade. It was hot as hell, I drank almost 4 liters of water.

And the last spot to visit was Zabriskie Point, located east of Death Valley and noted for its erosional landscape. The location was named after Christian Brevoort Zabriskie, vice-president and general manager of the Pacific Coast Borax Company in the early 20th century. The company’s twenty-mule teams were used to transport borax from its mining operations in Death Valley.

This was it for Death Valley and I drove back to Vegas to sleep in my hotel and get ready for next hop – Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon.
